bodywork
Massage
Massage involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue by applying varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements throughout the body. Through this process massage can promote health and well-being and can be used to treat many common ailments caused by stress. Treatment lasts about 1hr and can be extended to 1.5 hours or combined with any of the treatments listed below
Oriental Aromatherapy
This unique treatment utilises essential oils therapeutically according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Through an understanding of diagnostic techniques, such as tongue and pulse diagnosis, the most appropriate oils are chosen for the individual. A wide range of ailments - as well as minor conditions where no clearly definable 'disease' exists - can be treated.
Oriental Head Massage
This deeply relaxing treatment is one of the newest and most popular treatments to be introduced to the West. By applying pressure on numerous points on the face and scalp, along with deep relaxing stretching of the neck and shoulders, we can unblock energy and help it flow smoothly. It has enormous therapeutic benefits for the client and has amazing effects on stress related conditions such as headaches, fatigue, tension and insomnia.
Acupressure
This treatment uses finger pressure on acupuncture points to manipulate energy imbalances within the body. By manipulating these points you can strengthen, calm or disperse the Qi, thereby helping it to flow smoothly.
Specific Treatments
Treatments are individually designed to focus on your specific needs. Any combination of the above treatments can be considered.
Deep Tissue Therapy
This massage uses many of the same movements as a Swedish massage, but also incorporates slow deep movements and stretching. This technique works deeper into tired, aching muscles to give relief.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points can present themselves as referred patterns of sensation such as sharp pain, dull ache, tingling, pins and needles, hot or cold, as well as creating symptoms such as nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, or blurred vision. These small, hyperirritable sites in the muscle tissue sometimes refer pain to other locations as in headaches or sciatica. It is closely aligned with the eastern technique of acupressure the guidelines for applying acupressure apply to most Trigger Point Release applications.
Myofascial Release
Massage-type techniques are employed to coax muscles in spasm to relax. Chronically tense muscles restrict blood flow and fatigue the body. By applying gentle pressure and stretching movements to connective tissues or fascia, normal alignment and function can be restored and chronic pain eliminated. Developed in the late 1960s by John Barnes, Myofascial Release can treat neck and back pain, headaches and recurring sports injuries, among other conditions.
