acupuncture and fertility research

Research in reproductive health has shown dramatic clinical effects from the use of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. In the April 2002 issue of Fertility and Sterility, it was reported that a study of the effects of acupuncture with IVF to show IVF success was increased from 26.3% in the control group to 42.5% in the acupuncture group.

Acupuncture has been shown to improve the quantity and quality of sperm. A 2000 Israeli study at the Bar-Ilan University involved 20 males with fertility problems. It is concluded that acupuncture may be a useful, non-traumatic treatment for males with very poor sperm density.

Also, research has shown that acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterine arteries, regulates the menstrual cycle, improves egg quality and ovulation, improves luteal phase defects, reduces adhesions and scar tissue, decreases pain, lowers elevated FSH levels, increases male reproductive health, rebalances hormones and the HPO axis and helps prevent miscarriage and shortens labour time.
