Myheadspace was set up by John Philbin with the aim of offering a professional complementary healthcare service accessible to people working in central London.
Here John explains how he became a Complementary therapist: After working in the city for over ten years I developed a stress related illness, my diet and lifestyle also contributed to the condition becoming worse. For a number of years I had been taking medication, although the medication alleviated my symptoms it didn't make them go away permanently. I realised that I had to take control of my health and investigate alternatives to get my health back on track. It was back in 1990 that I realised the potential of complementary therapies when a friend introduced me to acupuncture and aromatherapy; from this point began my journey in to the complementary healthcare field.
After a couple of years of improvement to my health I decided that I wanted to train in acupuncture and help people the way I had been helped. So, like many practitioners, I trained because I had experienced such positive results from acupuncture.
I believe that Western medicine has an fundamental role to play in treating illness. I also believe that complementary therapies and therapists have just as an important role by empowering patients to take control of their health and lifestyle to reach optimal health.
I have over 13 years experience through my work in hospitals in Central London, private practice and 5 star Spa’s, The Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge and the Dorchester Spa on Park Lane.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and I continue to improve my knowledge with continuing education.
